The situation with electricity supply to consumers will improve in August this year, which is primarily due to the completion of scheduled preventive maintenance (PRM) at a number of NPP power units

This was reported by the State Energy Supervision Inspection of Ukraine (Derzhenerhonahliad) with reference to its head Ruslan Slobodian on June 19.

«We expect relief in August, taking into account the completion of repair work on some nuclear power units and the decrease in the number of facilities with guaranteed electricity supply,» he said on the air of «Suspilne».

According to Ruslan Slobodian, nuclear generation is the basis that provides more than 50% of consumer needs even after the occupation of Zaporizhzhia NPP. Repair work and the development of decentralized generation are currently underway to add capacity to the power system and cover the shortfall.

«Energy workers are doing everything they can to complete the work as quickly as possible. At the same time, a somewhat difficult situation with electricity supply is expected in the next month and a half,» the head of the inspection noted.

In turn, Petro Kotin, head of JSC NAEC Energoatom, stated in an interview with the company's press service that nuclear engineers currently set themselves the goal of shortening the repair times of nuclear power units of the NPP as much as possible.

According to him, the PZR, which is primarily related to the reloading of fresh nuclear fuel, can last for one nuclear power unit from 36 to 58 days, if the repairs do not involve additional work on the reconstruction of the equipment.

«Currently, we are reducing additional work as much as possible in order to meet the deadlines that are minimally possible today for fuel overloading and repair of all equipment to ensure the quality of work for the next 300 days after connecting the power unit to the network,» said Petro Kotin.

We will remind, the energy company DTEK said that if Russia continues to attack Ukrainian power plants, then in the worst case, when winter comes, Ukrainians may spend up to 20 hours a day without electricity and heating.
