Construction of a new stage of a large wind farm with a capacity of 344 MW will begin in Mykolaiv region.

This was announced by Vitalii Kim, Head of the Regional State Administration for Wind Energy, on the air of «News.Live».

According to him, this is part of a large-scale project that was planned to be implemented at 500 MW before the full-scale invasion.

As you know, before the full-scale invasion, DTEK, together with local authorities, planned to build a 500 MW wind farm, but construction was suspended due to the war. In 2023, the first phase of 114 MW of wind turbines was already commissioned in the Berezanka community. Now a new stage begins.

«The project you are talking about has a capacity of 350 MW. In 2023, more than 130 MW were already built and commissioned — that is, during the war. Of course, if we built this in 2022 during active hostilities in the vicinity, now that the enemy is across the river and cannot really do anything, we will continue to build,» said Vitalii Kim.

Now that the security situation has stabilised, investors are coming back, including international partners from China.

«This is only a part of the project, because investors are returning to us — both our Ukrainian ones and those from China and other countries that plan to develop wind energy. We have more than 70 sites prepared by local communities for investment by international partners. That is, we do not have a security issue here now — the issue is the economy and energy independence,» added Vitalii Kim.

It is worth reminding that Mykolaiv plans to build a 12 megawatt wind farm for 552 million hryvnias. The project is initiated by the utility company «Mykolaivoblteploenergo». The project envisages the installation of six wind turbines and diesel generators that will operate in a single system.

Earlier, the Mykolaiv City Council set up a working group to develop the city's Energy Sustainability Plan.
