70% of people who underwent retraining on the basis of professional engineering in Mykolaiv found a new job

On the basis of the Higher Vocational School №21 in Mykolaiv, retraining of adults who can acquire a new profession in a short period of study is underway. 70% of course participants are already employed.

This was reported during the meeting of the management of the institution with the delegation of the UN Development Program in Ukraine on September 11, NikVesti writes.

The training takes place with the financial support of the Government of Denmark within the framework of the project Mykolaiv Restored. One of the courses organized on the basis of the school is the program «Electrical fitter for lighting and lighting networks», which was successfully completed by 15 participants. To conduct the training, the partners converted an electrical workshop.

«On the basis of the school, 60 people were trained as electrical installers. These courses are attractive due to the short duration — the training lasts only two weeks. Employers start selecting candidates even before the end of the course, so both parties are satisfied. All materials, uniforms and food were paid for by benefactors. Most of the participants already work, pay taxes, and in this way replenish the local labor market,» said the director of the education department of Mykolaiv RMA Alla Velikhovska.

UNDP supports vocational training in more than 20 specialties, including carpenter, plumber, electrician, welder, locksmith, turner, tractor driver, plasterer and junior nurse. The list of professions is formed on the basis of an analysis of the local labor market, noted the permanent representative of UNDP in Ukraine Jaco Cilliers.

«The war significantly changed the labor market. Many people were forced to relocate or join the military, causing a shortage of skilled workers. We help employers to find specialists, and people to find new professions. We are proud of the fact that 70% of the graduates of our courses have already found a job,» added Jako Cilliers.

The course for women tractor drivers in de-occupied Snihurivka deserves special attention, said Alla Velikhovska. Female students have already completed the theoretical part of the program.

«This course allows you to get the right to drive the relevant equipment. All course participants are already employed, as the training takes place on the basis of the enterprise, where they will later work. The area where they study is not completely safe, so it is important for us to ensure their safety,» emphasized Velikhovska.

During the meeting with the students and management of the school, the international delegation emphasized that the study program will be expanded in accordance with the needs of the region.
