Caught fish worth almost ₴325,000: a poacher was arrested in the Mykolaiv region

Law enforcement officers together with the fish protection patrol at the Yelanets reservoir near the village of Kamianka exposed a man who illegally caught fish on a boat.

This is reported by the communications department of the National Police in the Mykolaiv region.

It is noted that more than 200 units of aquatic biological resources and prohibited fishing tools — nets and a boat — were seized from the offender. According to the inspectors' calculations, the amount of damage caused to the state amounted to 324,292 hryvnias.

Based on this fact, the law enforcement officers opened criminal proceedings on the grounds of the crime provided for in part 1 of Article 249 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine «Illegal occupation of fish, game or other water extractive fishing».

For the crime, the man faces up to three years of imprisonment.

We will remind that in the Mykolaiv district, law enforcement officers caught poachers illegally catching fish and crayfish. The amount of damages caused to the state amounted to more than 613 thousand hryvnias.

Earlier, in the Mykolayiv region, three men illegally caught 709 individuals of various species of fish and crabs, despite the ban. Poachers caused 880 thousand hryvnias of damage to the environment.
