Security officers: The police of the Mykolaiv region announced that starting next year, 38 law enforcement officers will monitor order in schools

From the end of January 2024, the pilot project «School security officers» will be launched in educational institutions of the Mykolaiv region.

Serhii Makhno, the head of the Mykolaiv Oblast State Police Service, told about this during a press conference on Friday, December 29, NikVesti reports.

The «School Security Officers» project provides for the presence of a police officer in educational institutions on the territory, who will monitor the security process in schools. Police officers must not allow unauthorized persons to enter and ensure that no one carries dangerous objects. For this, arch metal detectors will be additionally installed.

«On the territory of the Mykolaiv region, we will allocate 38 employees who will deal directly with the safety environment on the territory of schools. What is the task of this officer? The security officer is located directly in the school premises in order to prevent the passage of outsiders who are not related to the educational process, except for parents of children or other persons who provide their services. The task of security officers is to prevent persons who can bring weapons, explosives, ammunition and other dangerous objects that can harm children, participants of the educational process, from entering the school. Measures will also be taken regarding the appropriate arrangement of educational institutions. First of all, these are metal frames, hand-held metal detectors for inspecting items that are brought to educational institutions,» said Serhii Makhno.

Approved employee candidacies will go on duty at educational institutions of the Mykolayiv region in January. So far, law enforcement officers have agreed with local military administrations and the Department of Education.

Each security officer must undergo a medical and psychological examination, as well as a training course lasting 6 months, 5 of which are theoretical training.

According to Serhii Makhno, the security officer is currently a pilot project. 38 law enforcement officers will be allocated from GDNP bodies, security police, patrol police for permanent service in relevant educational institutions.

«Why 38? This is the number that we can allocate in order not to lose other positions on the detection and documentation of crimes, protection of public order and other functions assigned to the police,» he added.

Serhii Makhno also added that discussions are currently ongoing regarding the issue of carrying weapons.

In an interview with Ukrainian News, the head of the National Police, Ivan Vyhivskyi, said that the full implementation of the project will take up to 2 years due to the online training format. During 2024, it is planned to provide police officers to 6,500 schools.

«We will consider the moment of mobilization very seriously so as not to let evaders pass. In addition to women, there are also, for example, men with many children, before the mobilization age, or who have a deferment from the draft, or have already been demobilized, but have the mental and physical health to work in such a position,» noted the head of the National Police.

As a reminder, from 2024, in Mykolaiv region , it is planned to open face-to-face education in all schools and kindergartens.

Earlier it was reported that in the Mykolaiv region about 100 thousand schoolchildren study remotely, and 22 thousand students are abroad.

We also remind you that in response to the questions of Mykolaiv students, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that in order to fully restore the educational network in Mykolaiv, the region needs to strengthen air defense.

As you know, schoolchildren in Mykolaiv still study online. Although the government, with the help of donors and the state, is actively setting up shelters in educational institutions, which sometimes causes indignation among the townspeople.

We remind that the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council approved the list of educational institutions that will work in 2023-2024.

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych explained that the refusal of children to go to school is a guarantee of their personal safety, because Mykolaiv is still in the zone of possible ballistic damage from the Russian Federation. At the same time, he emphasizes the importance of preparing shelters and resuming education in schools when the Armed Forces move the front line.

At the same time, in front-line Ochakiv, which is still in the zone of damage of the enemy's anti-aircraft missile system, a mixed form of training is in effect.

Currently, 57 educational institutions have been allowed to work offline in the Mykolayiv region. Most of them are schools of Voznesensk and Pervomaysk districts. In addition, 94 schools work mixed, that is, children study offline in a certain sequence, for example, one week after another. In addition, 277 educational institutions work online.

Later, Vitalii Kim explained that the decision on the offline operation of city schools will be made by the Office of the President and the Ministry of Education.

According to the monitoring of the Department of Education of the Mykolaiv City Council, 65% of schoolchildren want to study full-time.

For the beginning of the academic year, the Department of Education of the City Council announces tenders for placement in shelter schools in an offline format. Yes, the shelter in school №23 will be repaired for 2.2 million hryvnias, and in Lyceum №58 for 2.6 million hryvnias.

At the same time, the publication «Ukrainian Pravda» together with the savED fund, as part of the «To school again» campaign, announced a fundraiser for the construction of a shelter for the Mykolaiv Lyceum №55, which in the new academic year should become a key school in the city district.
