The Mykolaiv City Council discussed cooperation with the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation(NEFCO) on the implementation of a project to modernise the city's heating infrastructure.

Deputy Mayor of Mykolaiv Serhii Koreniev and Ihor Filipov, a governance expert from the Office for Recovery and Development, agreed on the partners' intentions to raise €14 million, the press service of the Mykolaiv Development Agency reported.

«We are agreeing on steps to modernise the heating infrastructure. Recently, the Recovery and Development Office hosted a working meeting with representatives of the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) and the utility company «Mykolaivoblteploenergo». They discussed the key stages of joint projects, the status of work and further steps. Particular attention was paid to the modernisation of the heating infrastructure and increasing its energy efficiency», the city council writes.

The projects are being implemented thanks to an agreement between NEFCO and Mykolaiv City Council signed at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome. This involves attracting more than a million euros of investment, including:

  • €7.2 million for the installation of individual heating points in residential buildings, which will allow for heating regulation, resource savings and increased comfort for residents;

  • €7.2 million for the construction of three solar power plants with a capacity of 9.9 MW each, which will be a step towards the city's energy independence.

The funding will go directly to the contractors without involving the budget or utility companies. «Transparent, clear, effective», as the city council writes.

It should be noted that this project with NEFCO is funded by the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark.

«For us, cooperation with NEFCO is an opportunity to attract the best practices in the modernisation of utility systems. This is a chance to make the system more stable and modern so that citizens can receive heat without interruption even in the most difficult conditions», said Vice Mayor Serhii Koreniev.
