Denys Anatoliyovych Shmyhal (born October 15, 1975, Lviv) is a Ukrainian statesman and engineer-economist. Since March 4, 2020, he has served as the Prime Minister of Ukraine, becoming the longest-serving head of government in independent Ukraine.

Education and Career:

  • Education: In 1997, he graduated from Lviv Polytechnic with a degree in "Management in the Production Sphere." In 2003, he defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Development of the Production Infrastructure of the Region in a Market Economy."

  • Career: He held various positions in business and the public sector. From 2009 to 2011, he headed the main economic department of the Lviv Regional State Administration. From 2014 to 2017, he was the vice-president of "Lvivholod" company.

Political Activity:

  • Head of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration: From August 1, 2019, to February 5, 2020, he headed the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration.

  • Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine: From February 4 to March 4, 2020, he served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.

Prime Minister of Ukraine:

On March 4, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appointed Denys Shmyhal as the Prime Minister of Ukraine. Under his leadership, the government has focused on reforms in the fields of economy, decentralization, and anti-corruption. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, Shmyhal's government has actively worked on ensuring national defense capability, supporting the economy, and providing social protection for the population.
