The newly appointed Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, stated that the most difficult situation with electricity supply is currently observed in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as in the Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions and in all frontline communities.
He announced this during question time in parliament.
«The situation is very difficult. In some cities and regions, preparations have failed. I see that many processes are not working as they should. We will now take immediate action to restore order,» said Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, there is not a single power plant left in Ukraine that has not been hit by enemy strikes during the full-scale war. As a result of the attacks, thousands of megawatts of capacity have been knocked out of the power system.
«Despite this, the power grid remains intact, and dispatchers are maintaining control over it, although they are forced to apply significant restrictions on consumption,» the Prime Minister noted.
He also reported that Ukraine has more than 20 days' worth of fuel reserves. According to him, the situation with gas reserves remains under control, and restrictions on gas consumption are not currently being applied.
Separately, Denys Shmyhal appealed to entrepreneurs to turn off outdoor advertising lighting.
«I ask businesses to turn off outdoor advertising — lighting, screens, and other large energy-intensive structures. If you have excess electricity, it is better to direct it to people rather than to bright advertising,» he added.
On 14 January, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appointed Denys Shmyhal to the position of First Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Energy.
