There is a shortage of teachers in the Mykolaiv region, with a shortage of about 530 specialists. To solve the problem, deputies propose to introduce a state order for teacher training at Vasyl Sukhomlynskyi Mykolaiv National University.
This was discussed during a meeting of the deputy commission on science and education of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, according to NikVesti.
The chairman of the commission, Yevhen Horburov, noted that the shortage of teachers is a nationwide problem.
«According to the Ministry of Education, the state lacks about 45,000 teachers. In our region, there are 530. Our pedagogical university trains physicists and mathematicians, but they are not teachers. I think that we need to prepare and approach both the Ministry of Education and the Cabinet of Ministers to allow us to train teachers on state order in our pedagogical institute. Then they will study at public expense. We will not waste time and train teachers», suggested Yevhen Horburov.
The initiative was supported by Anton Tabunshchyk, Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, who promised to submit an official request to the relevant ministry.
As of 2024, it was reported that about 70% of teachers who were forced to leave due to the Russian invasion and shelling of the region had returned to Mykolaiv region.
