Four modular schools have been built in the Mykolaiv region in communities affected by hostile shelling.
This is described in the article NikVesti: «Education despite the ruins: how modular schools work in Mykolaiv region.
The outer walls of mobile educational spaces are made of sandwich panels lined with metal with a protective coating. They are built to the customer's needs with all communications at once, transported and installed wherever needed.
According to the SavED charitable foundation, four educational spaces have been installed in the region:
- in the village of Chervona Dolyna (Shyrokea community) — for 300 children,
- in the village of Zelenyi Hai (Shevchenkove community) — for 180 pupils,
- in the village of Pervomaiske (Pervomaiske community) — for 250 schoolchildren who will sit at their desks offline for the first time from 1 September,
- in the village of Shevchenkove (Shevchenkove community) — for 300 students who are also returning to full-time education.
Hanna Novosad, co-founder of the savED charity foundation, emphasises that modular school construction can significantly save time and resources. Such designs include four or six classes, depending on the number of students in the community. In addition to the necessary furniture, the spaces are equipped with tablets and interactive multimedia panels.
According to Hanna Novosad, modular structures are often associated with temporary structures on construction sites or with temporary camps with unacceptable conditions. However, this is a misconception. In fact, we are talking about modern, technological solutions designed for long-term use — up to 50 years.
As for the modular educational space, after the primary school is restored, the community will be able to convert it, for example, into a kindergarten, a space for creativity or an administrative service centre.
As a reminder, 52 schools in Mykolaiv will be operating in full-time or mixed formats from 1 September. This is 12 more schools than the previous year. As of today, 88 shelters have been set up in schools for full-time work, said First Deputy Mayor Anatolii Petrov.
In 2024, the Capital Construction Department of the City Council spent 7.6 million hryvnias on the construction of shelters in schools and kindergartens in Mykolaiv.
Prior to that, the Capital Construction Department had named the safety component as a priority for its work in 2025. The plan was to build seven new shelters in schools and kindergartens, and to overhaul three more in hospitals.
At the same time, Mykolaiv region was among the three regions where the largest number of school shelters were built under the programme «School Offline».
