According to him, the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs is a challenging role and few people are keen to lead it.
Vitalii Kim spoke about this during his final press conference today, 18 July, as reported by NikVesti.
When asked why he had chosen to head the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs in particular, Vitalii Kim said that there had been discussions regarding posts in other ministries as well.
«Let’s put it this way: I can’t say that I turned them down. But there had been discussions previously about other ministries, which I did not agree to,» replied Vitalii Kim.
He said he did not want to work where there was «money and corruption», but instead wanted to carry out specific tasks at the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs.
«This is a challenging ministry, one that is socially essential, and many people don’t want to take it on because of the ratings — it’s a very complicated situation. I, on the other hand, understand the responsibility and enjoy tackling complex tasks that are important. I didn’t want to work where there’s money, corruption, clans and so on. There is a specific task here that I want to carry out,» said Vitalii Kim.
According to him, when he agreed to take the post, he set certain conditions.
«My own team, funding for projects, provided the government approves them. In other words, the conditions were that I would implement the policy and do what is best for veterans, but that no one would stand in my way,» commented the minister.
He also noted that the military personnel with whom he has worked can assess his appointment specifically to the post of Minister for Veterans.
«I rely on those who fight alongside the lads I work with. So anyone who has worked with me on military matters can assess my performance,» the minister added.
As a reminder, on 16 July, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted to appoint a new Cabinet of Ministers. Among the new government officials is Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, who has taken the helm of the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs.
In his video address on 17 July, he promised to champion the interests of the Mykolaiv region in the state budget.
