The project “Transparency and Recovery: Accountability of Local Authorities in Mykolaiv Region” is implemented by NikVesti with the support of IWPR in 2025 and focuses on strengthening public oversight of local authorities during post-war recovery. The key priorities include transparency in public spending, decision-making at the community level, and the efficient use of resources — including international aid.
As part of the initiative, the editorial team produces a series of analytical articles, reports, stories based on information requests, and adapted content for social media. These materials explain to local residents how decisions are made, where the money goes, and which sites are being restored. The goal is to make authorities more open and information more accessible and clear.
The project covers the entire Mykolaiv region and targets active citizens, youth, IDPs, and all those who wish to engage in democratic processes at the local level. We believe that only systematic public oversight and quality journalism can ensure a fair, effective, and accountable recovery process.
These publications were produced within the framework of the Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR) project “Strengthening Public Oversight,” with financial support from Norway. The content is the sole responsibility of the NGO “Mykolaiv Media Hub” and the online media outlet “NikVesti” and does not necessarily reflect the views of IWPR or the Government of Norway.
