A court verdict is a decision rendered by a court of first instance or appellate court that determines the guilt or innocence of the accused and, in the case of a guilty verdict, imposes a sentence or grants a reprieve. The verdict is an act of justice issued in the name of the state and is based on a comprehensive, thorough, and objective examination of the case's circumstances. It comprises introductory, reasoning, and operative parts, which respectively provide general information about the case, the rationale for the decision, and the court's specific conclusions. The verdict becomes legally binding after the expiration of the appeal period or after the appeal has been considered, if one was filed.
