Sienkevych on roadworks in Mykolaiv

Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych is dissatisfied with the number of excavations on city streets caused by repair work on the water supply system, regional heating and power plant.

He expressed this opinion during an open staff meeting on Monday, 2 March, according to NikVesti.

The mayor asked representatives of the water utility, regional heating company, and thermal power plant how long it would take for the companies to repair the damage to the city streets.

Hennadii Iziumov, director of the municipal enterprise Mykolaivvodokanal, said that he would be able to answer this question with certainty after a planned meeting with the contractors performing this work.

«We are gathering contractors this week. There are four companies that have problems with this — both with excavations and fencing. Accordingly, we will understand when they will finish and what measures to take against them,» said Hennadii Iziumov.

At the same time, a representative of the Mykolaiv Thermal Power Plant said that the company will asphalt the closed excavations as soon as weather conditions permit.

«All excavations are closed, and we are waiting for weather conditions to allow for asphalting. There has been a lot of rain — the contractor cannot enter,» he said.

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych added that he was surprised by the number of excavations during his last trip around the city.

Recall that Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych stated that there are currently no funds in the budget for routine and major road repairs. After this winter, deep potholes appeared on the roads due to the effects of freeze-thaw cycles and de-icing reagents that were poured onto the asphalt surface.

The mayor noted that the budget only has 20 million hryvnias exclusively for patching roads for the entire year. However, he compared the roads in Mykolaiv with the condition of roads in Kyiv, adding that their condition after winter is the worst.

At the same time, in a comment to NikVesti, the director of the municipal enterprise ELU Avtodorig, Vitalii Shevchenko, said that there would be no large-scale patching of potholes on the roads of Mykolaiv for about another month due to unstable weather conditions and the moisture content of the road base.

In early March, municipal workers began patching potholes on Tsentralnyi Avenue.
