In Mykolaiv, only main streets and intersections will be lit until April, while courtyards and secondary roads will remain unlit.

This became known on Monday, 2 March, during a staff meeting, according to NikVesti.

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych noted that he constantly receives complaints from residents about the lack of street lighting.

«Until April, the order from the RMA is to turn on only the main roads. Intersections and main roads will operate in emergency lighting mode, i.e., every other one,» said Oleksandr Ursolov, director of the municipal enterprise «Self-Supporting Construction Mechanisation Division».

Back in October 2025, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych promised to find out how much the city spends on street lighting after midnight. A month later, it became known that an extra hour of light costs the budget approximately 10 million hryvnias per year.

To reduce the load on the network, lighting was turned off in Mykolaiv in December 2025. The lights are turned off in courtyards and on secondary streets, while main roads, accident-prone areas, intersections, bridges, overpasses and flyovers remain lit for safety reasons.
