Kim: Heating season in Mykolaiv to start later to save money

The start of the heating season in Mykolaiv is going to be postponed and the heating will be switched on later. This is explained as a cost-saving measure.

This was announced by the head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration Vitalii Kim during a briefing after a meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities on 7 October, NikVesti reports.

The head of the region noted that the city is actually fully prepared for the heat supply, and that specialists are currently continuing to push the system. However, there are legal obstacles related to the lack of readiness of a number of documents.

«I hope that the percentage of readiness for the heating season is 100%, but we are pushing through the system and networks that need to be ready to start the heating season. In order to save money, we will try to start the heating season as late as possible, as we understand the difficulties of this year. But legally, many condominiums and users have not yet signed the documents and have not submitted all the necessary documentation to get a signature. Legally, the percentage of readiness is low. We are ready to get started. We are looking at the weather and hope that it will be warm,» said Vitalii Kim.

The head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration explained that preparations for the heating season are currently underway in the region. According to him, the heating system is already undergoing pressure testing to prevent possible accidents when the heat is launched.

«We are testing the system first to avoid accidents. The temperature is still being gradually supplied. Preparatory work is underway. The year before last, we had a major accident before the switch-on, and it took two days to restore it. Last year, thanks to these actions, we had no accidents. I hope that despite the wear and tear on the system, there will be no accidents this year, although we are not immune to this. The pressure has already been checked. The temperature of the media will be supplied gradually, but three days after the average daily temperature required to switch on the heating. Nevertheless, I am appealing to everyone to save money, we will start the heating season on time, but according to the weather. We will not switch it on in advance,» he added.

The briefing was also attended by Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych, who was asked by journalists about the work being carried out by the specialists of Mykolaiv CHP, in particular, on Mariupolska Street in the centre of Mykolaiv. In response, he said that this was the first time in 50 years that new networks had been laid there.

He also recalled last year's missile attack on Mykolaiv TPP, noting that the authorities are preparing for possible risks from the aggressor.

«As for the operation of Mykolaiv TPP, we are all worried about it. Let me remind you that last year, Russia attacked the TPP, destroying its generation capacity. This year, we are doing everything we can to minimise the risk of freezing for Mykolaiv residents in case of a repeat of this situation,» said the mayor.

As a reminder, as of August 2025, Mykolaiv had a low level of preparation of the housing stock for the heating season. Out of the 1233 buildings serviced by «Mykolaivoblteploenergo», only 30 have received certificates of readiness, which is only 2.4% of the total.

At the same time, the utility company «Mykolaivoblteploenergo» reported that as of the end of June, it had prepared 33 boiler houses for the heating season.
