After the Russian missile attack on 8 July 2024, doctors at the National Children's Specialised Hospital «Ohmatdyt» performed more than 10,000 operations, and almost 22,000 children received inpatient treatment.
This was announced by Health Minister Viktor Liashko.
According to him, the hospital did not stop working for a single day. At present, «Okhmatdyt» is undergoing a full recovery without stopping the treatment process.
«In a few days, the hospital reopened its doors to patients. The department was transferred to a modern building, which, despite the damage, did not stop working. And it is not going to stop. Over a year, more than 10,000 operations were performed here — a third of them are complex, rare, and sometimes unique. Almost 22 thousand children received inpatient care. More than 176 thousand times patients visited the clinic», said Viktor Liashko.
Strike on «Okhmatdet» on 8 July
On Monday, 8 June, Russia attacked Kyiv. A missile hit the building of the National Children's Specialised Hospital «Okhmatdyt».
In total, Russia fired 40 missiles at Ukraine in the middle of the day. As of the evening, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 32 people were reported dead and 129 injured in Ukraine, including in Kyiv and Kryvyi Rih.
As of the evening of 8 July, emergency rescue operations at «Okhmatdyt» continued. It is known that the strike hit the building where children were undergoing dialysis, which is blood purification in case of kidney failure.
During the rescue and search operation , rescuers pulled the bodies of two children and their mother from the rubble.
Earlier, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that emergency rescue operations at the hospital had already been completed: two people were killed and 32 injured.
Later, the Security Service of Ukraine confirmed that the Children's Hospital «Okhmatdyt» in Kyiv was destroyed by a Russian X-101 cruise missile launched by a bomber during a massive missile attack on Ukraine.
It should be noted that German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said that his country is ready to take Ukrainian children for treatment after the Russian attack on the hospital «Okhmatdyt» in Kyiv.
In its turn, «Ukrzaliznytsia» provided shelter in the lounge areas of the station and provided transportation for all families who were in «Okhmatdyt».
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said that 100 million hryvnias had been allocated from the state budget reserve fund for priority reconstruction work at Okhmatdyt.
Health Minister Viktor Liashko said that one of the buildings of the National Children's Specialised Hospital «Ohmatdyt» is not subject to restoration.
