Farmers continue harvesting in Kherson region. As of early July, farmers harvested more than 17,000 tonnes of grain and pulses from 12,000 hectares.

Winter rapeseed harvesting is also underway, with about 200 tonnes already harvested, according to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine.

According to farmers, this year's campaign is taking place amid drought and severe weather changes. Some of the fields used for sowing were demined only this year. It is also reported that farmers are receiving technical assistance from international organisations. In particular, they have provided granaries, agricultural machinery, and harvest storage sleeves.

The combines used during harvesting are equipped with air conditioning systems and electronic devices for monitoring moisture and threshing.

Earlier it was reported that climate change and a critical decline in the water balance could make half of the country's agricultural land unusable for cultivation. By 2050, the drought zone will cover millions of hectares.

We remind you that every year droughts in Ukraine are becoming a new reality rather than an exception. Mykolaiv region, along with Odesa, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, is among the regions with the highest vulnerability to droughts and desertification.

In addition, May this year was the second hottest month in the history of meteorological observations. It is second only to May 2024.
