A family-type orphanage will be built in Mykolaiv. The project will be implemented within the framework of the initiative «Address of Childhood» and will be funded by the Olena Zelenska Foundation.

This became known on 26 June, during a session of the Mykolaiv City Council, according to NikVesti.

The relevant memorandum between the foundation, the city council and the district administration was signed on 12 May. The house will be built on a plot of 3,000 square metres.

According to the chairman, Oleksandr Bereza, the delay in making a decision on the Central District Administration's designation as the customer for the construction of the family-type orphanage could delay the entire design process for another month.

«The Foundation pays for both the project and the construction. The city only needs to identify a customer who will take on the legal side. Since the site is located in the Central District, it is logical that the district administration should act as the customer. Upon completion of the construction, the building will be handed over to the Service for Children,» said Oleksandr Bereza.

MP Olena Kiseliova added that there is already a foster family ready to create a family-type orphanage. "The only thing that is missing is housing.

«If there is no home, there is no family. And the children who could live in this family are still in other conditions, not so good,» she stressed.

As of June 2025, there are 50 family-type children's homes in Mykolaiv region, where 323 children — orphans, children deprived of parental care, and young people among them — have found homes and support.

This year, 31 orphans and children deprived of parental care were adopted in the Mykolaiv region.

Every year, the number of orphans and children deprived of parental care in Mykolaiv region decreases. Today, there are 2,488 children deprived of parental care in the region.
