In the spring of 2025, not a single tree was planted in Mykolaiv.
This is stated in the response of the Department of Housing and Communal Services of the Mykolaiv City Council to an information request from Dmytro Riabchenko, head of the NGO «Medical Control and Protection of Rights».
The document, signed by the director of the department, Dmytro Bezdolnyi, states that according to the information of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks», the company did not plant trees in the city from March to May this year.
«The municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks», which is funded by about 150 million hryvnias per year and was created to green the city and care for the plantations, has not planted a single tree in the city this year! In a city where there is a lot of empty space for trees on every block, and tens of thousands of saplings can be planted. Where climatic conditions have changed significantly and dust and heat are increasing every year», commented Dmitry Ryabchenko.
As reported earlier, residents of Mykolaiv are concerned about the felling of trees and the start of construction work on Soborna Street and demand explanations from the authorities.
Scandalous construction in Inhulskyi district
The story surrounding the construction on Kobera Street began in 2014. Back then, the company «Svit Zdorovia» received a land plot near «Zoria»-«Mashproekt» to build a sports and recreation complex. Some of the trees on the territory were cut down back then.
In March 2014, the then acting mayor, Yurii Hranaturov, publicly acknowledged during a meeting of the city executive committee that the situation raised many questions and stated that construction was suspended until the feasibility of the project was clarified. Nevertheless, according to local residents, work continued, mostly at night.
In January 2015, the conflict escalated. Residents of houses located on Kobera Street and employees of the plant «Zoria»-«Mashproekt», came out to protest. They claimed that a petrol station was being built on the site of the complex, despite the fact that according to the documents, it was supposed to be a health centre. According to them, construction continued at night despite a ban from the city council. They complained about the cutting down of about 100 trees in the park area, trenches in their yards and the disruption of the ecological balance in the industrial area.
Already on 28 January 2015, Mykolaiv City Council refused to extend the lease of the land plot to «Svit Zdorovia».
In turn, residents of the Inhulskyi district appealed to the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, to stop the construction of the petrol station «OKKO».
