Mykolaiv Parks have once again criticised the residents of Mykolaiv for picking flowers: incident reduced one of its employees to tears

The «Mykolaiv Parks» municipal enterprise has stated that unknown individuals pulled petunias out of a flowerbed. The company claims that the incident reduced one of its employees to tears.

This is mentioned in the company’s latest video statement.

The video paid particular attention to Oksana, an employee of the company who had been tending these flowerbeds since spring. According to the council workers, the woman worked on the flowerbeds every day, and when she saw the flowers had been pulled out, she was unable to contain her emotions.

«Ms Oksana had been tending these flowerbeds herself since spring. She came every day, pulled out the weeds, and rejoiced at every new flower. She put not only her energy but also a piece of her soul into them,» the statement reads.

It is worth noting that the authorised capital of the city council’s municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks» has increased more than a hundredfold over the last five years and now stands at 100 million hryvnias.

What are contributions to the authorised capital? When the city allocates funds to municipal enterprises, it is not always for salaries, fuel or street cleaning. Some budget funds are channelled differently — as contributions to the authorised capital. This is money or property that the local authority transfers to the municipal enterprise in its capacity as owner, effectively investing in its development: machinery, equipment and infrastructure. Unlike grants or current expenditure, these funds cannot be spent at will. They are allocated for specific city council decisions and specific needs, within the financial year. It is precisely through contributions to the authorised capital that the authorities demonstrate which municipal enterprises they consider more important and which they regard as secondary.

It is worth recalling that the activities of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks» have recently been the subject of repeated scrutiny. The mayor, Oleksandr Sienkevych, has criticised the enterprise for the poor maintenance of green spaces, in particular the overgrown grass and weeds.

Over the past few months, residents of Mykolaiv have been complaining more frequently about uncut grass and weeds in various parts of the city, particularly near buildings and in courtyards. The «Mykolaiv Parks» municipal enterprise responded that management companies and homeowners’ associations are responsible for this.
