Mykolaiv region is one of the three regions of Ukraine with the highest number of victims of mine and other explosive ordnance accidents.

The head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, said this during a telethon.

«We are one of the three most mined regions, so unfortunately, we have more cases. In total, we have 31 people killed since the start of the full-scale war and 140 people injured. But I have to say that in 2023 there were about 60 people, in 2024 — 30, and in 2025 — 10. That is, the trend is declining because almost 168,000 hectares have already been cleared of mines,» said the head of the RMA.

According to him, almost 168 thousand hectares of land have already been cleared of mines. More than 196 groups of about a thousand people are involved in demining. The work involves specialists from other regions of Ukraine and international partners.

Earlier it was reported that since the beginning of 2025, nine incidents related to careless handling of explosive devices have occurred in Mykolaiv region.

Who will demine Mykolaiv region and when?

For more than two years now, has been demining Mykolaiv region, one of the most heavily mined regions in Ukraine. Since then, more than 20,000 hectares of potentially mined areas in the region have been cleared, but not all areas have been surveyed yet.

Today, professional deminers continue to work in Mykolaiv region: government units, Ukrainian and foreign companies. While in 2023 the pace of demining in the region was quite fast, in early 2024 it slowed down somewhat.
