As part of the prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia, 17 Mykolaiv marines returned home on 6 May.

This was reported by the 36th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Bilynskyi. The head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Command, Vitalii Kim, said that 17 Mykolaiv marines had returned from captivity.

«Today, the prisoner exchange operation has been completed, as a result of which our marines were released. We welcome our brothers back to their native land of free Ukraine! We rejoice with their families and friends. We are proud of their courageous feat!», the brigade said.

Now the liberated Ukrainian defenders will undergo treatment and rehabilitation, they added.

As a reminder, on 6 May, Ukraine and Russia exchanged prisoners. As a result, 205 Ukrainian soldiers returned home.

The previous exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia took place on 19 April. A total of 277 Ukrainian defenders returned home, including members of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, the State Special Transport Service and border guards. They defended Mariupol, Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Luhansk regions.
