On Monday, 24 February, the European Commission offered Ukraine a new support package to ensure the security of the energy system and full integration into the European energy market.

This is stated in the press service of the European Commission.

The package of measures will allow Ukraine to fully integrate its electricity market with the EU by early 2027, together with Moldova, and ensure further integration into the EU gas sector, provided that Ukraine significantly accelerates the necessary market reforms.

It is emphasised that part of Ukraine's energy infrastructure has been destroyed by Russian attacks, and only a fully independent energy system can protect Ukraine from current attacks and future pressure.

Ukraine's full integration into the EU energy market would be part of the overall security guarantees that the EU can provide, as well as an effective precondition for reconstruction, as energy security is key to ensuring the flow of investment throughout the country.

«For three years, Russia has been trying to plunge Ukraine into darkness by relentlessly attacking its energy infrastructure. This must stop for good. With the package we are proposing today, Europe will provide Ukraine with a sustainable, secure and competitive energy system. More renewable energy and the full integration of energy markets will contribute to greater energy security for both Ukraine and the European Union», said Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.

As a reminder, the leaders of Canada, the Baltic States, the Nordic countries and Spain arrived in Kyiv on the morning of 24 February, the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
