Mykolaiv region is still one of the most explosively contaminated areas in Ukraine.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Mykolaiv region.

It is reported that since the start of the full-scale invasion, pyrotechnics have found and destroyed 27,552 pieces of explosives.

With the help of manual, mechanised and canine demining, territories with a total area of 11156 hectares were surveyed, and 12602 pyrotechnics and identifiers were involved.

In January, almost 640 hectares of agricultural land were cleared of mines in Ukraine. The cost of demining cost the state over 20 million hryvnias.

Who will clear Mykolaiv region of mines and when?

Mine clearance in Mykolaiv Oblast, one of the most heavily mined regions of Ukraine, has been going on for more than two years. Since then, more than 20,000 hectares of potentially mined areas have been cleared, but not all areas have been surveyed.

Today, professional deminers continue to work in Mykolaiv region: government units, Ukrainian and foreign companies. While in 2023 the pace of demining in the region was quite fast, in early 2024 it slowed down somewhat.

Read more about who is currently demining Mykolaiv region and when the region will become completely safe in the article NikVesti .
