Residents of Novyi Bug complained that the water in the taps does not meet the drinking quality.

On November 19, local resident Tetyana Lebedyk published the relevant information in the «Novyi Bug — Novobuzhany» Facebook group.

According to the woman, she turned to the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention with a request to check the drinking water in Novyi Bug. There, says Tetiana Lebediuk, they reported that the water quality does not meet sanitary standards.

«I received a reply that 16 such samples of drinking water were taken this year and all of them do not meet sanitary standards. The local authorities were informed and by law had to warn us and take measures to avert the threat to the public's health. It is surprising that the authorities forgot to warn the population that drinking water in the city of Novyi Bug poses a threat to the population and most likely did not take any measures. So the rescue of the drowning is in the hands of the drowning themselves. Drink juices!», the resident wrote.

Mykola Maistrenko, head of the utility company «Water Networks» of the Novyi Bug City Council, said that the water in the citizens' taps comes from the Sofiivka reservoir and goes through several stages of purification before that. According to him, water is filtered to such a state of quality that it can be used for domestic needs.

— We have our own laboratory, we fully control this process. First, we pump water from the Sofiivka reservoir, then we chlorinate it. We have modern equipment - we bought it, we have everything. I talked to people and explained. We cannot afford to have bad water. We are controlled by the State Production and Consumer Service. We have a laboratory center here — samples are taken for analysis every day, checked every day,  said Mykola Maistrenko.

He explained that the condition of the water, which Novyi Bug residents complain about, arose because of the blooming of water in the Sofiivka reservoir due to hot weather in summer and early autumn.

«It was a hot summer and there was no precipitation. Water has stagnated in the Sofiiv reservoir, and algae blooms every year in August. This year, it so happened that the heat was so intense that they covered the entire pond. We explain this situation to people. We described it in our local newspaper. If only we had such a thing, but from the same reservoir, water flows into both Kazanka and Bashtanka. Water is the same. So every year, and it so happened that September was also hot. But there were no deviations (there were, note)», Mykola Maistrenko said.

Currently, he says, the situation has stabilized: «It stabilized as soon as it got colder. And everything is fine now, clean water, everything is as it should be.»

We remind you that in Mykolaiv they plan to restore the operation of the Zhovtneve Reservoir, which functioned until 2006.
