The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is planning to open an office in Mykolaiv to facilitate cooperation between international partners and local authorities.
This was agreed upon by Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Administrative Office, and Auke Lotsma, UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine, during a meeting on 13 October.
During the talks, the parties discussed the results of already implemented projects and outlined further areas of cooperation.
Vitalii Kim thanked UNDP representatives for supporting programmes that help communities in the region rebuild infrastructure and develop human potential. According to him, the opening of the UNDP office in Mykolaiv will facilitate ongoing communication with communities and entrepreneurs, as well as strengthen the economic development of the region.
«We are working to ensure that the region has the necessary reserves, but the strategic part is no less important — economic recovery. We need to teach people how to earn money, create businesses, and develop communities. The opening of the UNDP office in Mykolaiv will help to strengthen this work on the ground, to ensure constant communication with communities and entrepreneurs,» said Vitalii Kim.
Auke Lotsma, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the support and stressed the importance of local leadership. He said that UNDP plans to open an office in Mykolaiv by the end of the year to improve coordination of joint actions.
The representative also noted that the organisation is working in partnership with the Danish government and other international institutions on projects in the areas of energy, recovery, education, and water supply. In particular, a large-scale programme of the European Investment Bank worth about €200 million is being considered, which includes support for Mykolaiv.
«We are convinced that local leadership is crucial. That is why it is important to hear your priorities and build effective support together. It is a great honour for us to work alongside those who bear the brunt of the impact every day. We are planning to open a UNDP office in Mykolaiv by the end of the year to ensure even better coordination of our activities,» said Auke Lotsma.
Special attention was paid to the development of education. According to Auke Lotsma, UNDP is ready to support initiatives aimed at creating schools and universities as spaces for innovation, partnership and digital education. The organisation will develop mentoring programmes and professional development for teachers.
They also discussed the development of local communities. In Mykolaiv region, an approach has been implemented that motivates communities not to wait for external assistance but to look for projects, partners, and investors on their own.
We would like to remind you that the sappers of Mykolaiv region received an aerial reconnaissance system «Mines Eye», which will help them to detect ammunition and explosive devices in the region more effectively.
