The United States will not send its delegation to the second round of talks between Russia and Ukraine, which is to take place in Turkey.

This was reported by The Atlantic, citing its own sources.

According to journalists, in recent days, Donald Trump has been discussing with his aides the possibility of new sanctions against Russia, but is currently awaiting the results of the second round of talks between Ukraine and Russia, which is due to take place next week in Istanbul. As noted in the article, the United States does not plan to send a delegation there.

The US presidential administration says that Donald Trump expects progress in the peaceful settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war as a result of the talks.

«The president is outraged, but still wants to reach an agreement. He's looking for the best way to get there, but believe me, he's ready to withdraw from the talks if necessary,» the source said.

As a reminder, Kremlin spokesman Dmitrii Peskov said that Ukraine has not yet responded to Russia's proposal to hold a second round of talks in Istanbul on 2 June.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov earlier said that Russia had developed a special memorandum in which it allegedly outlined its position on «overcoming the root causes of the conflict». The Russian delegation at the possible talks will be headed by Vladimir Medinskyi.

The Kremlin also does not rule out a personal meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but stresses that it is possible only after specific agreements are reached at the level of delegations.
