The Ministry of Agrarian Policy has signed an agreement with China to expand Ukrainian agricultural exports to the Chinese market.

This is stated in the report of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

It is noted that on 6 March, an important agreement was signed with the People's Republic of China. The documents regulate veterinary, sanitary and phytosanitary requirements for the supply of the following products to the Chinese market

  • wild-caught aquatic products (fish and seafood caught in natural reservoirs);
  • peas.

Vitalii Koval, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, stressed the importance of these agreements for Ukrainian exporters.

«China is one of the world's largest importers of agricultural products, and opening up new opportunities for Ukrainian producers will not only increase foreign exchange earnings, but also consolidate Ukraine as a reliable supplier of quality agricultural products on the international market. I am confident that we have laid a solid foundation for expanding cooperation, as the last contract with China was signed 5 years ago», said Vitalii Koval.

According to forecasts, the implementation of these agreements will contribute to export growth:

Pea production in Ukraine is showing stable dynamics. In the 2023/2024 marketing year, it amounted to 409 thousand tonnes, and in 2024/2025 it is forecast to reach 476 thousand tonnes. Turkey, India, Italy, Malaysia, the UAE, and China remain the main sales markets, with high growth rates in purchases.

Domestic commercial fish catch in 2024 totalled 11.9 thousand tonnes, up 6.2% compared to 2023. Catch outside Ukraine's jurisdiction almost doubled to 19.9 thousand tonnes. The export value of fish products increased by 80.3% over the year and reached USD 56.3 million.

Earlier it was reported that thanks to the cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Ukraine opened access to 16 new export markets in 2024.
