The mayor of Mykolaiv believes that there is no reason to introduce a military administration in the city: the officials are working efficiently

The mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sienkovych said that the authorities never considered the possibility of creating a city military administration.

He stated this during a press conference on January 4, NikVesti reports.

Oleksandr Sienkevych believes that there are no prerequisites for considering the idea of creating a city military administration and expressed his confidence that such talks, if they do take place, will take place without his participation.

«I don't know, it was never discussed. Moreover, if the discussion about the creation of the city military administration is to proceed, it will be done without me. I do not see the prerequisites for starting conversations about the creation of a city military administration. Therefore, if such conversations were held, I will learn about them at the same time as you,» he said.

Oleksandr Sienkevych added that Mykolaiv is a pilot city for war recovery and is already implementing a number of initiatives, in particular, the use of the Dream digital ecosystem for accountable recovery management. In his opinion, the work of the city council units is so efficient that there are no others who would do it better.

«Sometimes reading the news and the comments under them, I understand that many people do not understand that Mykolaiv is in many ways a pilot city for military reconstruction. For example, Mykolaiv will also pilot the use of «Dream» (a digital ecosystem for accountable recovery management — note). Our divisions have already met with the developers of this «Dream», with the Ministry of Reconstruction, and are also cooperating to introduce our facilities there. That is, today the work carried out by the units of the city council is very effective, and I do not know who could do it more effectively today. In addition, we see how the President of Ukraine is promoting Mykolaiv's cooperation with Denmark today, saying that this is a unique case and the first case of such close cooperation,» he said.

It should be noted that the city military administration is a temporary state body for the period of martial law, which is introduced due to the inability of local governments to fulfill the powers assigned to them by the Constitution and laws of Ukraine.

We will remind that in connection with the large-scale invasion of Russia on February 24, 2022, it acquired the status of a military administration.

In November 2022, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, created three military administrations in the liberated territories of Mykolaiv Oblast and appointed their heads. According to the president's order, Ivan Kukhta became the head of the Snihurivka administration, Maksym Korovai became the head of Pervomaisk, and Radion Zavadskyi of Horokhivka.

Earlier, the mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sienkevych said that he does not support the idea of holding presidential, parliamentary and local elections in the country during the war.
