Car rally «We are the voices of prisoners» in Mykolaiv, 8 March 2025, photo: Yulia Boychenko, «NikVesti»On Saturday, 8 March, a car rally was held in Mykolaiv to remind people of Ukrainian soldiers who are in captivity or missing.
The rally started near the city railway station, and then a convoy of cars with flags and posters moved along Myru Avenue and Tsentralny Avenue to the public space «*8 Prychal», a correspondent for «NikVesti » reports.
Among the participants were relatives and friends of the defenders, as well as concerned citizens.
- Today, all our families live in two parallel worlds. One is a path of search, full of faith and hope, and the other is a life of despair, uncertainty and helplessness. The 71st Brigade, like most, has hundreds of missing persons and only a few confirmed captives. Missing is just two words that hide the pain of thousands of parents, children, loved ones, sisters and brothers. Today we have become the voices of those who cannot speak. We have gathered here to remind the society that the war is still on. Thousands of Ukrainians are still in captivity, and the fate of dozens is unknown. Each of us here wants to hug our loved ones, not hold a sign, flag or banner," said Alla Chernyak, a representative of the family association of the 71st separate hunting ranger brigade of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces.
Another participant said that such reminder actions do not allow the world to forget about Ukrainian soldiers who are in captivity or missing.
- We are here to see them, to hear them, to prevent the world from turning away. Each of them must return. And until this happens, we will be here, we will shout, we will demand together until everyone is returned. Each of them is not just a name on a list. They are our brothers, husbands, sons, friends. These are those who fought for us. And now they expect us to fight for them. And we are here because we have no right to remain silent. We are the voices of the prisoners!" said a participant in the rally.
Iryna Abramova, a representative of the Union of Mothers and Wives of Marines of Ukraine, added that such reminders help not only to attract the world's attention, but are also important for Ukrainian defenders in captivity.
- "The main thing that keeps me going today is that we are close. Two weeks ago, the girls and I visited the guys in Nemyriv who were released on 5 February. And when we showed them the videos of our actions, our rallies, you should have seen their eyes shine with hope. I wish everyone to wait. The guys are holding out there with the last of their strength, because they know that we are waiting for them, that we are fighting for them. And don't believe them if they say they don't know. They get this information through the guys from other brigades, and they know that we are fighting for them," said Iryna Abramova.
