Teenagers from Mykolaiv region receive $25,000 for social projects in affected communities

Young people from Mykolaiv region have received funds to implement projects to rebuild communities affected by the war. Ten teams of schoolchildren competed for grants, and the top five received funding of $5,000.

The presentation of the projects took place on 12 January, according to a correspondent for NikVesti.

In the summer, 100 active teenagers from Mykolaiv region took part in the UActive educational programme from the savED charity foundation. For 15 weeks, they worked with mentors and teachers to develop project ideas for their communities and present them to the jury.

UActive programme leader Khrystyna Kashchuk noted that the programme is aimed at developing teenagers from frontline and remote villages.

«The programme develops young people's skills in critical thinking, design, project management, and understanding of the development of their communities,» says Khrystyna Kashchuk.

Anna Novosad, co-founder of the savED charity foundation, said that over the two years of the UActive programme, teenagers have received $168,000 to create their own projects.

«As long as the war is on, and there is no possibility of a big reconstruction, we are doing such intermediate things. We make schools in cultural centres, set up modular schools, repair shelters and involve teenagers in the restoration of», said Anna Novosad.

Schoolchildren from the region have developed ideas for creating youth spaces, sports grounds, media spaces, a school film studio, an Alley of Memory for the fallen defenders of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and various recreation areas.

The UActive programme was initiated by the American non-governmental organisation «Spirit of America» together with the charity foundation «Together for Ukraine». As a result, $25,000 was shared by educational institutions in Novokyivka, Chervona Dolyna, Lotskino, Peresadivka and Antonivka.

As a reminder, the state digital ecosystem for recovery management DREAM contains 489 projects for the reconstruction of Mykolaiv region. Their implementation will require 37.87 billion hryvnias.
