The Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian agent who planned to commit a terrorist act by blowing up the local post office in Zaporizhzhia. He faces life imprisonment.

According to the SSU, this attempted terrorist attack was supposed to lead to numerous victims among the civilian population and create panic in the front-line city.

It is noted that for this purpose, the man made a homemade explosive device with remote control in his own apartment. He received instructions for making explosives from the Russian special service.

At home, he placed the prepared device in fruit boxes in order to send them to the cargo department of one of the postal operators. The plan was to activate the explosives through a phone call, after receiving a message about the delivery of the «order» to the post office.

According to the investigation, the Russian occupiers not only planned a terrorist attack, but also ordered the agent to identify places of mass concentration of personnel and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The agent was supposed to pass the received intelligence information to the Russian special services for the preparation of sabotage and airstrikes against the Defense Forces.

The accomplice of the Russian agent turned out to be a local resident who was recruited by a representative of the Russian Armed Forces. It is known that in order to attract cooperation, the Russian special services used his acquaintance who lives in the temporarily occupied part of the region.

The man was informed of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 111 (treason committed under martial law by a prior conspiracy by a group of persons);
  • part 1 of article 14, part 2 of article 258 (preparation to commit a terrorist act).

Currently detained in custody. He faces life imprisonment.

We will remind you that the law enforcement officers detained an employee of a local company who installed webcams near the Mykolaiv Seaport to spy on the ships of the Armed Forces. He faces life imprisonment.
