Over 3 years of full-scale war in Kherson region, 229 children have suffered, 39 of them killed

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Kherson region, 39 children have been killed and 190 others injured as a result of Russian war crimes.

This was stated by the deputy head of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, Andrii Kovalenko, according to «Ukrinform».

«Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion until 28 February 2025, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have registered more than a thousand criminal proceedings for war crimes and crimes of aggression in the field of juvenile justice. In 294 cases, these crimes were committed directly against children, and another 819 were committed in the field of child protection», he stressed.

According to him, a total of 229 children have suffered since the start of the full-scale invasion, 39 of whom were killed and 190 sustained injuries of varying severity.

He also noted that cases of deportation or forced displacement of children are being investigated. Thus, since 24 February 2022, 74 criminal proceedings have been initiated over such facts.

«In 40 criminal proceedings on the deportation of children initiated by law enforcement agencies in the region, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine provides procedural guidance to the pre-trial investigation», the deputy head of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office stressed.

According to him, in 29 cases, the deportation of 735 Ukrainian children has been established, most of whom were taken under the pretext of «rehabilitation».

The deputy head of the Kherson regional prosecutor's office also said that there are criminal proceedings on the facts of forcing children to obtain Russian citizenship — two such cases have been recorded so far.

Earlier, it was reported that about 5,000 schoolchildren continue to remain in the part of Kherson region controlled by Russian troops, forced to study under propaganda educational programmes.
