Smyhal: «More than €16 billion were collected in Poland for Ukraine, but we did not receive anything»

In 2022, Poland together with the European Commission organized two fundraisers for Ukraine. However, to date, Ukraine has not received the part of the money that was intended for it.

This was said by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, during the conference on March 4.

«I want to announce: on April 9, 2022, the Stand up for Ukraine conference was held in Warsaw, more than 10.1 billion euros were collected, part of which was intended for Ukraine. To date, Ukraine has received zero. At the conference of donors to help Ukraine on May 5, 2022, 6 billion euros were collected — Ukraine received zero,» said Denys Shmyhal.

According to the Prime Minister, the Ukrainian representatives were connected to the first conference online, and Denys Shmyhal attended the second one in person.

«These funds were collected and not transferred to Ukraine. We do not know the fate of these funds. Where did they go, in support of what, Ukraine did not receive anything,» said Denys Shmyhal.

Denys Shmyhal listed the sums that Poland received during 2022-2023 to support Ukrainian refugees from Western partners. He also cited the statistics of investments of Ukrainian refugees in the state budget of Poland.

«In general, during these two years, Ukrainians and Ukraine have influenced the GDP of Poland from 1% to 3% of annual growth in each year: both in 2022 and in 2023. An important point: I am convinced that the Polish government has all these statistics, and I am sure, that Polish society should also hear it. We are really neighbors and partners, we really have to respect and support each other, because we are fighting together against the Russian aggressor,» stressed the Ukrainian Prime Minister.

We will remind you that earlier Denys Shmyhal said that the Ukrainian government is preparing «clear steps and specific proposals» to resolve the situation with the border blockade in Poland.
