Farmers in Mykolaiv, Odesa and Kherson regions who grow cotton will be able to receive state compensation of 10,000 hryvnias per hectare of crops. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has launched the support programme.

This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. According to him, the initiative is of strategic importance for the country's defence capability.

«The government is launching a programme to support agricultural producers who grow cotton. The payment will amount to 10,000 hryvnias per hectare. It will cover three regions: Mykolaiv, Odesa and Kherson regions. This will be an incentive for the development of light industry and will also strengthen the country's defence capability, said Denys Shmyhal.

Earlier it was reported that this year the first demo cotton fields were laid in Mykolaiv region — about 3,000 hectares.
