«It is noted that the UK's direct support for Ukraine and the long-term partnership between the two countries will be high on the agenda during the visit of British Foreign Secretary David Lammy to Kyiv on Wednesday, who will see first-hand how the UK's support puts Ukraine in the strongest possible position as it approaches the fourth year of a full-scale Russian invasion».
«During the visit, the Foreign Secretary will meet with President Zelenskyy, Foreign Minister Sybiha, Prime Minister Shmyhal and Deputy Prime Minister Stefanishyna to reaffirm the UK's continued support and discuss first-hand how the UK and international partners can ensure Ukraine is in the strongest possible position», the statement said.
It is also noted that as part of the new support for Ukraine, the UK will provide £3 million (approximately $4 million) to supply Ukrainian grain and other food products to Syria.
«In cooperation with the World Food Programme, this planned support will be a lifeline for the most vulnerable people in Syria, unlike the supply of Russian grain to the brutal Assad regime, which has tried to buy favour by burdening the Syrian state with expensive debts», the statement said.
The UK has also developed a new scheme to help track grain stolen by Russia from Ukrainian fields under its control, which is then re-labelled and sold on.
Earlier, it was reported that the UK would provide Ukraine with up to two billion pounds for the purchase of air defence systems and missiles for them. This is approximately $2.5 billion.
