During a meeting with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed Ukraine’s foreign policy priorities for May and June, in particular relations with Hungary and Georgia.
According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian side is engaged in active dialogue with Hungary’s new government and sees prospects for a ‘constructive reset’ of bilateral relations.
He noted that the Foreign Minister and other government officials are preparing for bilateral consultations with Hungary.
The meeting also discussed cooperation with European institutions within the framework of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasised that Ukraine has already taken the necessary steps to open chapters in the negotiation process and is awaiting a clear timetable for further decisions.
Separately, Andrii Sybiha briefed the President on contacts with the Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine seeks to normalise relations with Tbilisi on the basis of mutual respect and cooperation.
In addition, the parties discussed negotiations on ending the war and Europe’s possible involvement in this process. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that some of these issues remain confidential at this stage.
The day before, European Council President António Costa announced that EU leaders were discussing preparations for possible negotiations with Russia on ending the war, as US President Donald Trump has so far been unable to achieve a breakthrough on this issue.
Meanwhile, Dmitrii Peskov stated that Russia is ready for dialogue with European Union countries, but does not plan to initiate the resumption of contacts on its own.
