The project “Transparency and Reconstruction: Accountability of Local Authorities in Mykolaiv Region. Part II” is implemented by the online media outlet NikVesti with the support of IWPR and aims to continue strengthening public oversight of local authorities during the recovery of the region. The project focuses on transparency in the use of public funds, decision-making by local governments, and the effectiveness of resource allocation, including international assistance directed to the recovery of communities in Mykolaiv region.
Within the project, the editorial team produces analytical articles, reports from local government meetings, stories based on freedom of information requests, and adapted content for social media. These materials explain to residents how budgets are formed and spent, what decisions are made by local authorities, which infrastructure facilities are being rebuilt, and how reconstruction processes are progressing. The goal is to make government actions more understandable to citizens and to improve access to important public information.
A separate focus in the second phase of the project is judicial journalism. As part of this direction, the newsroom prepares journalistic materials covering court proceedings and judicial decisions with the aim of increasing transparency and accountability of the judicial system at the regional level. Coverage of the courts is intended to improve public understanding of how the judiciary works and to strengthen civic oversight of the justice system.
The project covers the entire Mykolaiv region and is aimed at active citizens, young people, internally displaced persons, and all residents who want to stay informed about reconstruction processes and participate in democratic life at the local level.
Publications are produced within the IWPR project “Strengthening Public Oversight” with financial support from Norway. The content is the sole responsibility of the NGO Mykolaiv Media Hub and the online media outlet NikVesti. The materials do not necessarily reflect the views of IWPR or the Government of Norway.
