The Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), legally registered under this name, is often informally referred to as UOC-MP (Moscow Patriarchate). In the Mykolaiv region, two UOC dioceses operate:

  • Mykolaiv Diocese — covers the central and southern districts of the region. The diocesan administration is located in the city of Mykolaiv.
  • Voznesensk Diocese — covers the northern and eastern districts of the region. The diocesan administration is located in the city of Voznesensk.

Following the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, discussions about banning the UOC became a subject of public and political debate. Parliamentary initiatives aimed at restricting or banning the UOC were introduced, and investigations into its activities were conducted in some regions. Despite this, the UOC remains a religious organization with a significant following in Ukraine.
