Mykolaiv diver Sereda wins silver at the 2025 World Championships

Oleksii Sereda, a diver from Mykolaiv, won silver in the men's 10m platform diving final.

The results of the competition are published on the website of the International Federation of Aquatics (World Aquatics), according to NikVesti.

Oleksii Sereda reached the final of the competition from fifth place, which the Ukrainian took in the semi-finals. Oleksii Sereda scored 471.80 points. In addition to the Mykolaiv athlete, another Ukrainian, Mark Hrytsenko, took part in the semi-finals, finishing 15th and not making it to the final.

It is worth noting that Oleksii Sereda is a pupil of Mykolaiv sports, but according to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, he represents the capital city of Kyiv.

How did the 10-metre diving competition go?

• In the first jump in the final, Oleksii Sereda showed the ninth result, scoring 78.40 points, writes «Suspilne.Sport». Instead, for the second jump, with the highest difficulty in his programme (3.7), he was 4.5 turns ahead in the grouping. For this jump, the Ukrainian earned 88.80 points and moved up five positions.

• An 81.60 on the third jump allowed Sereda to secure his place in the top four. Sereda took second place after his fourth attempt, performing a 3.5 revolutions backwards with a difficulty (3.6) with 88.20 points. For Sereda, this is the best performance of this jump this season.

• After the fifth jump, Oleksii Sereda retained the second place, scoring 86.40 for his attempt. However, the gap between him and the leader of the competition increased to 11.5 points before his last attempt.

• As a result, Oleksii Sereda took second place: he earned 91.80 points in his last attempt and increased his total score to 515.20 points. The Ukrainian was 4.25 points ahead of his closest pursuer, Mexican Randal Valdez.

What does Sereda's medal mean?

• Ukraine's first and last medal at the 2025 FINA World Championships — Sereda's final was the final for the «blue and yellow» in Singapore.

• Sereda set a new personal best at the World Championships — he won his debut personal silver. So far, he has been ranked second in synchronised disciplines (2022, 2023).

• This is Oleksii Sereda's fifth medal at the World Championships: the leader of the Ukrainian national team has already won three silvers and two bronzes.

• For the third time in his career, Oleksii Sereda scored more than 500 points for his performance. The Ukrainian's record remains 528.65 points — his bronze result in the final of the 2024 World Cup.
