The State Bureau of Investigation reported the suspicion of illegal enrichment to the former head of the Main Department of Internal Security of the SBI, Andrii Naumov.

The press service of the agency informs about this.

«In cooperation with the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and the Office of the Prosecutor General, the Bureau discovered that a former official of the Service had acquired unsubstantiated assets in the total amount of 32.7 million hryvnias,» the report says.

According to the SBI, the person involved in the case, while holding managerial positions in the SBI, became the owner of:

  • a «Toyota Land Cruiser 200» car worth almost 2.3 million hryvnias, registered to the wife's father;
  • BMW X6 xDrive40d car, worth 116,000 euros, registered to his wife;
  • monetary assets - almost 593 thousand euros and more than 120 thousand dollars.
  • two emeralds worth more than 6.5 thousand euros each.

Previously, the SBI informed him of suspicion of misappropriation, waste of property or possession of it by abuse of official position, and abuse of power or official position.

Also, the employees of the SBI informed him about the suspicion of fraudulent acquisition of more than 3.2 million hryvnias during his tenure as the head of the state enterprise during 2019-2021.

The suspect was declared an international wanted man.

A day before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Andrii Naumov went abroad.

In March 2022, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Andrii Naumov, the former head of the Main Department of Internal Security of the Security Service of Ukraine, had been stripped of his rank.

On June 7, he was detained in Serbia while trying to enter North Macedonia.

The request for extradition from Ukraine to Serbia was received in mid-October 2022. Andrii Naumov himself opposed his extradition to Ukraine. In October 2023, the Court of Appeal in Niš, Serbia, confirmed the decision of the High Court of First Instance to finally refuse the extradition of Andrii Naumov to Ukraine.

On September 29, 2023, the High Court of the city of Nis sentenced Andrii Naumov to one year of imprisonment on charges of money laundering.
