The Committee on Migration of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe appealed to the European states to extend the period of temporary protection that was granted earlier, or to find new ways for the legal stay of refugees from Ukraine in the territories of these countries.

This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to the website of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

«It is necessary to ensure the legal and legally secure presence of the population of Ukraine on its territory and facilitate the access of asylum seekers to existing rights,» says the document, which refers to displaced persons from outside Ukraine who enjoy temporary protection in Europe.

In particular, the commission asks EU member states to grant Ukrainians who enjoy temporary protection «the right to permanent residence in the host country after a three-year period of residence."

The adopted draft resolution also lists a number of measures to help internally displaced persons in Ukraine, including the rapid provision of humanitarian aid «with a special emphasis on the needs of internally displaced children and their families.»

At the end of March 2024, there were 4.2 million refugees from Ukraine in the EU.

We will remind that Poland promises to provide temporary protection to Ukrainian refugees without a passport. The country has extended protection, which is currently in effect until June 30.

In turn, Ireland is sharply reducing payments for Ukrainian refugees who will live in state housing.
