The Mykolaiv housing administration told how many people were stuck in elevators due to a power outage, whether they plan to forcefully stop their work, and whether the mobilization affected the number of service workers servicing elevators in Mykolaiv.

Volodymyr Nikolaichuk, deputy head of the housing administration, said this in a comment to the NikVesti journalist.

Four cases of people getting stuck in elevators of high-rise buildings were registered during power outages in Mykolaiv. However, according to Volodymyr Nikolaychuk, these are only the cases known to the Dzhkhg: people who got stuck in the elevator could not contact the emergency service, but solved the issue with management companies or condominiums.

«People called our emergency service, lifters came and opened (a closed elevator, — note). There was one case when people in the house did not have electricity late at night, and this condominium had an agreement that lifters work only until 6 p.m. And so it turned out that people got stuck and sat in the elevator until the light was turned on,» said Volodymyr Nikolaichuk.

At the same time, the DHCS assured that they will not forcibly stop the operation of the elevators in order to prevent such cases, because the elevator is the joint property of the co-owners of the apartment building.

«The city authorities have no right to say: «we forbid you to use the elevator», this would be a violation of their rights, we should act only within the framework of our powers,» Volodymyr Nikolaichuk added.

According to him, now most management companies and condominiums have contracts with companies that service elevators. In the contract, the parties determine the time when the lifters are guaranteed to arrive and remove the person. Usually this is from 6 am to 6 pm, at other times people can call a lifter on a paid basis.

In high-rise buildings of Mykolaiv, you can see announcements asking not to call the elevator on the eve of a shutdown, similar messages are also sent in messengers. In one such message, the head of the condominium urged not to call the elevator, because the elevator service workers were mobilized.

«Please don't get in the elevator at the last minute. There are no people to work. Elevator service workers were mobilized. No one will take you out of the elevator. You will wait for 4 hours,» wrote the head of the condominium in one of the group chats.

The deputy agreed that there were fewer service workers, but this was not due to mobilization.

«If we take the current period from mobilization to a year ago, the situation with the number of employees in the field of elevator maintenance has not changed much. Yes, it has become a little less, but not as critical as described in the ad. This is more of a horror than reality. It is true that there is a lack of qualified personnel. If we take March 2022 as a basis, then the city has lost about half of the specialists who served this fund. Now, as far as I know, several large elevator maintenance companies are looking for opportunities to train new people. There is a problem with the shortage of personnel, but it did not arise a month ago and not because of mobilization, but much earlier,» assured Volodymyr Nikolaichuk.

Earlier, DHCS reported that almost 10% of multi-apartment buildings in Mykolaiv do not have chairmen of condominium boards.
