Alla Vorobiova, a member of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, has appealed to the regional patrol police leadership, demanding that they ensure control over heavy goods vehicle traffic, which causes a traffic gridlock every morning in the Varvarivka neighbourhood.

The relevant appeal is in the possession of the editorial team at NikVesti.

According to her, residents of Varvarivka report constant traffic jams on Veselynivska Street in the direction of the Varvarivskyi Bridge.

People complain that the concentration of heavy goods vehicles and breaches of traffic regulations create hazardous situations on the bridge and its approach roads. Furthermore, the traffic jams sometimes block the passage of emergency services and public transport. The greatest difficulties arise in the morning hours — approximately from 7:00 to 9:00.

«Residents are concerned about the constant obstruction of access for emergency services and public transport, which in turn, during the morning rush hour from 07:00 to 09:00, makes it difficult to reach the city in time for work or school,» the appeal states.

The appeal also notes that in November 2025, the executive committee of Mykolaiv City Council reduced the hours during which freight vehicles are restricted from entering the city. Whereas the ban previously applied from 06:00 to 09:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00, following the changes it was set from 08:00 to 10:00. The relevant changes were incorporated into the traffic management schemes and new road signs were installed, in particular at the entrance to the city via the M-14 motorway from the direction of Odesa.

At the same time, there is a restriction on heavy goods vehicles on the Varvarivsky Bridge itself: vehicles weighing over 20 tonnes and with an axle load exceeding 7 tonnes are prohibited from using the bridge.

In light of the above, I request that effective measures be taken to implement the decision of the Executive Committee of Mykolaiv City Council dated 26 November 2025 №1677 «On amendments to the decision of the Executive Committee of Mykolaiv City Council dated 25 November 2016 №1089 «On amendments to the organisation of road traffic on certain streets of Mykolaiv» and to inform me of the progress of implementation as soon as possible via email.

Furthermore, the Mykolaiv City Council will contact the police regarding non-compliance with the requirements for the movement of heavy goods vehicles across the Varvarivskyi Bridge.

It should be noted that in Mykolaiv, major traffic jams regularly form in front of the Varvarivskyi Bridge, particularly in the mornings and evenings. In February, city residents reported traffic problems caused by road resurfacing works and potholes that appeared after the winter.

City councillor Alla Vorobiova noted that traffic jams on the Varvarivskyi Bridge hinder the movement of ambulances and public transport, making travel difficult. She also appealed to the patrol police of Mykolaiv Oblast to organise the passage of goods vehicles at the entrance to the city, near the village of Vesniane, at 15–20-minute intervals to avoid traffic jams.

Repairs to the Varvarivskyi Bridge in Mykolaiv have been ongoing for several years. Between September 2024 and December 2025, 46.3 million hryvnias were spent on the works, whilst in 2024, 44 million hryvnias were spent on bridge repairs.
