Demand for public charging stations for electric vehicles in Mykolaiv is growing, but not all stations are operational due to power outages.

This was reported by Mykola Lohvinov, director of the regional heating company, in a comment to NikVesti.

According to the company, both the amount of electricity consumed and the number of users have increased. At the same time, not all stations are operational due to power outages.

«The idea is not bad, and a large number of people are using it. There are currently problems with electricity, so not all stations are operating, but the volume of transactions has increased. More people have started using them,» said Mykola Lohvinov.

There are currently 24 charging points in the company's network. Some of them operate continuously — they are connected to facilities with an uninterrupted power supply. Others depend on power cut schedules.

Mykola Loрvinov said that the current chargers are slow — it can take 5–8 hours to fully charge a car.

«Last year, we considered installing high-speed stations that allow you to charge a car in about 40 minutes, but so far there are no funds for this. If there are resources, we may return to this issue this year,» said Mykola Lohvinov.

The regional heating company explained that they are not considering installing generators to ensure uninterrupted operation of the stations due to the high cost. Therefore, you can find out whether a particular station is working during power outages by checking the power supply: if there is light at the facility, the charging station is working.

In 2025, the director of Mykolaivoblteploenergo announced that a total of 55 charging stations are planned to be installed, with each costing around 80,000 hryvnia. Mykola Lohvinov explained that this will be a social project so that the company can earn money with minimal profitability.

Also, in 2024, deputies of the Mykolaiv City Council approved a four-year programme for the development of electric charging infrastructure, which aims to increase the number of electric vehicles and reduce harmful emissions into the air.
