In Mykolaiv, the municipal enterprise «Parks» will transfer wood waste generated from tree pruning and felling to the regional heating company for use in heating.

The relevant decision was adopted on 27 May by the executive committee of Mykolaiv City Council, according to NikVesti.

This refers to wood chips, which were previously mostly taken to the solid waste landfill. Now, there are plans to use them for pellet production.

«At present, this wood chip is mostly transported and buried at the solid waste landfill. However, following a request from «Obltelenergo» regarding the possibility of using it for pellet production, we held several working meetings involving the municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks», «Obltelenergo» and the Housing and Utilities Department. Taking into account the amendments developed and the agreements reached with the companies, it has become possible to adopt these changes. This will allow the municipal enterprise ‘Mykolaiv Parks’ to reduce the costs of disposing of wood chips, and «Obltelenergo» to obtain them for further use at a lower cost,» explained Ihor Nabatov, Deputy Director of the Housing and Communal Services Department.

It should be noted that an inventory was carried out in 21 parks, squares and green areas in Mykolaiv. Work on recording green spaces began in April 2024. The municipal enterprise stated that the inventory is carried out annually between April and October in accordance with the requirements of current legislation.

It should be noted that, as of September 2025, an inventory had been carried out in 10 green areas.
