Odesa authorities propose merging Road Agency with Transport Department to cut budget spending

Deputies of the Odesa City Council are proposing to merge the Road Management Department with the City Council's Department of Transport, Communications and Traffic Management.

The relevant draft decision has been published on the Odesa City Council website, according to NikVesti. It is to be considered at the next session, scheduled for 11 February.

The updated department is proposed to be named the Department of Transport, Traffic Management and Road Administration of the Odesa City Council.

The city council believes that the merger will allow all transport and road issues to be concentrated in a single structure and speed up decision-making. This decision should also optimise staffing and reduce budget expenditures.

They note that the division of functions often led to delays: one structure was responsible for the condition of the road surface, and another for road markings and signs on the same streets. After the merger, the new department will take on a wide range of tasks, from patching and major repairs of streets to monitoring the operation of minibuses and trams and introducing new traffic patterns.

We would like to remind you that there are delays in the operation of electric transport in Mykolaiv. The reason for this is the introduction of stabilisation and emergency power cut schedules, which have temporarily cut off power to some traction substations.
