Cameras «Mykolaiv Safe city» helped solve 229 crimes in two years

According to the police, in 2024, CCTV cameras «Mykolaiv Safe City» helped solve 94 crimes, and in 2025 — 135.

This was reported by the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council in response to NikVesti.

The crimes include assaults, thefts, arson, carjackings, and other incidents. The video helps to establish how the criminals moved, what cars they used, and who was involved in the crimes, as well as to collect evidence for the court.

It is also noted that in 2024, 101 requests were received from courts, lawyers or citizens to provide materials from the video surveillance system. In 2025, there were already 208.

«In addition, the capabilities of the «Mykolaiv Safe City» system are actively used by the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigation, and materials were provided at the official request of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine. On a daily basis, employees of the Patrol Police of Ukraine» have access to the system and use its capabilities,» the executive committee added.

It should be noted that during the construction of the information and telecommunications system of video surveillance and video analytics, 455 video surveillance cameras were installed in the city (the total number of cameras in the city is 700). Of these, 359 cameras are designed to recognise state vehicle licence plates, and 96 are surveillance cameras.

As a reminder, over 5 years of construction of the information and telecommunication system of video surveillance and video analytics «Safe City», 60.7 million hryvnias was spent in Mykolaiv. As of December 2025, the project was 95% complete.

It is also worth mentioning that the city recently purchased software for 4.6 million hryvnias that will automatically process traffic data recorded by cameras.

How does «Safe City» work in Mykolaiv?

The project «New construction of the information and telecommunication system of video surveillance and video analytics «Safe City Mykolaiv» has been implemented in the city since 2020. The project was scheduled to be completed in 2025.

The project envisaged the construction of 4 phases of the video surveillance system in 2023-2025 and the arrangement of 270 sites in different districts of Mykolaiv.

At the same time, in early 2024, the Mykolaiv police stated that the number of cameras in the city was insufficient at that time — there were about 230 CCTV cameras in operation for a city of half a million.

In 2024, 32.4 million hryvnias was allocated from the Mykolaiv budget for the development of the «Safe City» system. The project was expected to reach 75% completion by the end of the year. In September 2024, city council members additionally increased funding for the programme by another 20 million hryvnias.

In 2025, 49 million hryvnias was allocated in the city budget for the development of the video surveillance system under the «Safe City» programme.

In addition, since January 2025, Mykolaiv residents and entrepreneurs have been able to connect their own private cameras to the city's video surveillance system.
