In the event of prolonged power outages, «Mykolaivoblteploenergo» has backup power for the main boiler houses, but generators cannot completely solve the problem.

This was stated by Mykola Lohvinov, director of the utility company «Mykolaivoblteploenergo», during a briefing, NikVesti reports.

According to him, large neighbourhood boiler houses are equipped with generators, but some of the old small ones still lack equipment.

«We lack about 20 generators for those basement, old boiler houses where there is no place to put them. But the problem is not even the generators — the problem is the availability of people who can service them,» explained Mykola Lohvinov.

The company currently has about 250 generators on its balance sheet, and each one requires manual start-up and maintenance. In addition, the generators have a limited lifespan and need to be refuelled on a regular basis.

«If we run all the generators, we need about 30 tonnes of diesel per day. A generator is an emergency story. Every 150-250 hours it needs to be serviced,» he said.

Lohvinov stressed that the stability of heat supply primarily depends on the availability of gas:

«If there is gas, most of our facilities will have heat. The generators will not work around the clock but will ensure the minimum required temperature in the buildings,» he said.

Currently, the generators are working, but in a resource saving mode so that they can be used in critical hours in the event of a prolonged blackout.

Problems with buildings with IHP

The most difficult situation, according to the head, is in buildings with individual heating points, in particular in Korabelnyi district. The company has small generators for them, but the management companies did not want to take the equipment for safekeeping.

«The generator needs to be run, maintained and refuelled. We offered condominiums to take the generators last year, but they all refused,» Lohvinov explained.

In the event of a blackout, a temporary bypass connection without IHP is possible, but this will affect heat metering and require additional calculations.

The solution is to install battery systems that can keep the IHS running without external power for up to 4-6 hours. This will allow us to survive periodic outages without manually starting generators.

Earlier, First Deputy Mayor of Mykolaiv Vitalii Lukov spoke about the readiness of the city's social sector to possible long-term power and heat outages due to Russian shelling.
